*** Extra Credit / Pumpkin Carving Contest *** Sr Minnick - Fall 06

Halloween has nothing to do with el día de los muertos! We will discuss this tradition on another day.

The creators of the winning jackolantern of each period will earn an extra 25 points extra credit in addition to the 40 points offered. I will not judge - other periods will...

Guidelines: MUST BE FOLLOWED EXACTLY IF YOU WANT EXTRA CREDIT

For the 40 points extra credit, BOTH students will:

1. Complete all work outside of class. I will not remind you that this is due.

A) Both work on pumpkin.    
B) Each print out & turn in this sheet.    
C) Present pumpkin to class, reporting the following in Spanish:
    

Spanish I:

IN COMPLETE SENTENCES: (minimum 8 sentences)

Describe your pumpkin in 5 adjectives. (round, orange, scary, funny, heavy, small, etc.) Give it a name (se llama construction)

Say what/why you like the pumpkin (gustar)

If the pumpkin could talk, what would it tell the class? (pumpkin's origin, current mental state, etc.)

HINTS / TIPS : remember descriptive adjectives/nouns must match (sing vs plural / masc vs fem)

Use ser /estar ... Look up unknown vocabulary in dictionary.

  

Spanish II:

IN COMPLETE SENTENCES: (minimum 12 sentences)

Describe your pumpkin in 5 adjectives. (ex. round, orange, scary, funny, heavy, small, etc.) Give it a name (se llama construction)

Say what/why you like the pumpkin (gustar)

In the preterite, discuss how you created the jackolantern: (yo corté los ojos. Mi compañero sacó las semillas, etc.) 4 SENTENCES

If the pumpkin could talk, what would it tell the class? (pumpkin's origin, current mental state, etc.)

D) Turn in written info stapled to this sheet.    
     

Foreign Language standards:

Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.

Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.

  

You need to bring in your finished jackolantern on Monday, Oct 30th BEFORE SCHOOL, and take it home AFTER SCHOOL on Tuesday, Oct 31st. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Jackolantens will begin to rot after 4-5 days. Plan to carve the jackolantern no earlier than the 28th of October.
