health for nine months, but her condition was about the same until early Saturday morning. Shortly
after breakfast, Mrs. Christenot complained of a soreness in her throat. Mrs. Kyle administered
first aid and had called a doctor, but the mother passed away before the doctor arrived, ending a
beautiful life.
Mrs. Martha Christenot was born in Quincey, Ill., Jan. 25, 1846, and at the age of 20, was
married to Charles F. Christenot in the year 1866. They immigrated to Montana, arriving in Alder
Gulch Oct. 12 after 6 months journey across the country by ox team.
The several living children are Mrs. John Kyle, Mrs. Henry Swisher, Harrison, Mrs. J. O. Jordan,
Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Del Newton, Weiser, Ida., George Christenot, Winnet, Fred Christenot, Roundup,
and Frank, Ekalaka, Mt.
Mrs. Christenot had 52 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
Her sister was Sarah Lofton of Carthage, Mo., whom she had not seen in 58 years, and who arrived
two weeks before the end. Mrs. Lofton was 11 years old when her sister left the parental home to
take up a place in the pioneers of Montana. The funeral was held in the Church on Main Street.
Burial took place in the Boulder Cemetery. Rev. O. J. Gist officiated.

Witness-Claimant: Mrs. Martha Christenot
Matter: In the pension claim of Mrs. Martha Christenot, formerly the wife of Charles
F. Christenot deceased, sworn before the Clerk of the District Court.
"That she is the claimant in the above cited claim and that Charles F. Christenot
who was a private of Capt. Daniel G. Jones Company (C) 12th Regiment of Wis Vet'n
Infantry, and was Discharged from the Service of the United States on the Sixteenth
day of July 1865, died at the Warm Springs Assylum in Deer Lodge County, State

was Epilepsy, with which the deceased had been afflicted at intervals since about
the 23d day of July 1864. That the reason affiant cannot furnish record evidence of
the births of her children is that no such records are now or ever have been kept
in Montana; That the said Charles F. Christenot was never in the Naval or Military
Service of the United States since the 16th day of July 1865.

Matter: Application of Martha Christenot, widow of Charles Christenot.
Excerpt: "I was present at the birth of my sister Clemma, one of the minor children
mentioned in my said mother's application, and remember the date from the fact that
it was within a month after the date of my marriage, which was on Sept. 13, 1885, at
which time my father requested me to remain at home and nurse my mother through her
illness incident to child birth. I know the dates of births of my said brothers
and sisters Mary, Amelia, George, Frank, Frederick and Clemma, from having often
seen the record thereof which was made by my father the said Charles F. Christenot,
now deceased, with whose handwriting I am quite familiar, in the family Bible..."
