ALPHANS

Alphans or Alpha Centurians are water-breathing aliens of the planet Arima, the third from the sun Alpha Centauri A (Earth designation). Essentially Alphans are humanoid in appearance with grey or green scaley skin, possessing gills and other adaptations enabling them to dwell beneath the sea. Alphans have built interstellar ships of intermediate capacity, able to attain near light speed. The Alpha Centauri trinary system boasts other worlds with intelligent life. In fact the Alphans' nearest stellar neighbors are the blue-skinned, red-finned Centaurians (such as the member of the future band of freedoms fighters, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Yondu).

Alphans were first encountered when Dynorr, the Stalker from the stars, came to Earth to steal an ocean. Betrayed by Kormok, Atlantis was left defenseless when Kormok sent Namor to the Antarctic ruins of their previous homeland. There Namor was attacked by the Stalker from Alpha Centauri and his crew, but they were ultimately repulsed by the Sub-Mariner [SUB-MARINER #17].

In the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy timeline, in an attempt to save the Alphans from the world devourer Galactus, the Guardians and the Keeper (Silver Surfer as Protector of the Universe) transported Arima's capital entire undersea kingdom to an ocean of the planet of Yondu's birth, Centauri IV of Beta Centauri[GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #25]. In this future thr Alphans and Centaurians share a tranquil co-existence on Centauri IV [GOTG #47]

AMPHIBIANS

The Amphibians, sometimes called "hydro-men," are a race of mutated humans who, against their will, were exposed to a chemical mist by misguided ecologist named Dr. Hydro. One day a group of armed green-skinned men hi-jacked an airliner full of Florida vacationers (among which were Dr. Henry Croft, Namorita and Betty Dean-Prentiss). The plane was diverted to an installation off the Atlantic coast called Hydrobase. This was the 5th airliner hijacked in this same manner. The passengers were unloaded and corralled into special chambers where they were exposed to a green mist. With the sole exception of Nita, all of the passengers were transformed into green, scaley amphibious humanoids. Dr. Hydro planned to use the vacationers as a slave-labor force. Thankfully, with Nita's help and later that of Tamara, Namor and the Atlantean warriors, Hydro and his own soldiers were thwarted, and Hydro, himself, died. Namor vowed to oneday find a cure for the Amphibians, but until then opened the city of Atlantis to be their new home [SUB-MARINER #62]. Later, after the destruction of Atlantis, and because Atlanteans typically did not like the Amphibians, they moved to Dr. Hydro's installation known as Hydrobase. It was Reed Richards who finally discovered the link to the Inhumans mist and sought their assistance to help the Amphibians. Their scientists confirmed Reed's findings and revealed that there was a little known "anit-terrigen" compound which actually reverses the mutations caused by the terrigen mists. Dr. Croft was the first to attempt exposure to the anti-terrigens which actually cured him. Then, one-by-one the rest of the Amphibians were exposed, until the villainous Inhuman Maelstrom and his flunkies stoled the anti-terrigens.
