BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS: Phooey is not an official Disney character, but rather a spurious, mythical, fan-based creation derived from his various mysterious appearances. The term "phooie," "phooey" or "fooey" (spelling notwithstanding) is an Americanism used primarily as an expression (like "wow!" or "shucks!," etc.) to indicate the speaker is either pitiably "disappointed" or in pessimistic "disbelief." This term has been applied to the mysterious Fourth Nephew appearing with Huey, Dewey & Louie in some comic book panels by mistake. There are many known instances. Some, however, may not be true appearances of Phooey, but rather just some other Junior Woodchuck who happens to look a lot like Huey, Dewey and Louie. Many other found stories are much better examples. For more detailed information and actual examples see Per Starback's character section for Fooey.

WORKING THEORIES: To develop the myth of Phooey further I propose that Phooey's first appearance was in WDC #124 where he is actually called by name: "Phooie" (a slight deviation). While it is an accepted notion that early comics featuring HD&L depicted them as wearing blue, green and red shirts with one of the colors (usually green) being replaced occassionally by yellow, and the wearer being indistinguishable. However, it is now considered cannon that the official color scheme is "Huey wears red, Dewey wears Blue, and Louie wears green," leaving yellow out of the basic color scheme. It is my theory that Phooey is the Nephew wearing yellow (except, of course, when one of the others is wearing yellow).
