Louie the Mountain Lion's first appearance is in the film "Lion Around" (1950) when the Nephews disguise themselves as a lion as a trick to get a pie from their Uncle Donald, who, when he discovers the trick, chases them only to get mixed up with a real lion. In order to stay alive Donald must continue to serve up pies to the hungry lion. In his next appearance "Hook, Lion and Sinker" (1950) Louie and his cub, Louie Junior, attempt various ways of stealing fish from Donald until Donald's gun proves more than they wish to deal with. Next, in "Lion Down" (1951) Goofy and Louie compete for the right to relax in Goofy's new hammock. In "Father's Lion" (1952), Goofy, in his role as George Geef, takes his son, Junior on a camping trip and brags about his past bravery as an adventurer. Perhaps Louie's most embarassing film, Goofy defeats the poor lion without even realizing he's doing so. Finally, in "Grand Canyonscope" (1954) Donald annoys Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore in many ways, not the least of which includes an ensuing chase with Louie that results in the utter destruction of the national monument, to which the Ranger informs Goofy & Louie that they must restore the Grand Canyon to its original state under penalty of law. One of Louie's distinguishing characteristics is his single upper tooth (apparently he has had a long life of misfortune even before meeting Goofy and Donald). |
