BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS: Two mice who originated in the movie "Cinderella" (1950). Jaq is thin and Gus is fat. During their comic book career the two little mice are seen to have moved from the Trelaine estate into the castle along with the newly married Cinderella. Their primary rival, the mean and fat cat, Lucifer, attempted to follow and continue to torment them. As a result, by royal decree, cats were banned from the within the castle walls ("Christmas Parade" #2 - 1950). Later, perhaps due to unrest (actually due to an corporate executive decision to promote the film "Cinderella") Gus and Jaq began their long journey from the Castle to the "Big City." Possibly their first appearance was in the Gottfredson "Mickey Mouse" strip "Mousepotamia" (July 10 - Sept. 30, 1950) where they were curiously the same size as Mickey Mouse, when they inform the famous Mouse that he is the heir to the throne of Mousepotamia, a strangely midieval country ruled with an iron fist by the Iron Mask. Upon arriving in the Big City (apparently Duckburg), they encounter Daisy Duck, who is managing her own diner ("Vacation Parade" #3 - 1952 -possibly a reprint). Next the mice appear in "Vacation Parade" #2 (1951-possibly a reprint) as wandering through the city when Jaq decides the two mice need to get a job and answer a newspaper want add to be 'lab mice' for a series of experiments Donald Duck was conducting. Finally they wander over to Grandma Duck's farm, being attracted by the smell of freshly made donuts that Gus Goose was eating under a tree. At first Grandma is horrified by the mice, but inevitably she adopts them after they give her a peace offering for a birthday present ("Walt Disney's Comics & Stories #121 - Oct. 1950). Unfortunately, as later stories revealed, Lucifer followed the mice to Grandma's Farm and has taken up residence there as well.
