The story which introduces this character is "Topolino" #552 (1966 -reprinted in "Classici di Walt Disney" #114). $crooge McDuck crashes into Jubal Pomp's car; Daisy Duck and Brigitta MacBridge, passing by, offer to give evidence at the trial; but they don't agree on "what" the evidence is! So the four of them go to a lawyer named Cavillo Busillis (Cavillo means "quibble" while Busillis means "the core of the question" in a popular saying derived from Italian - "qui sta il busillis" ("here's the rub, that's the trouble"). Now it turns out that Mr. Busillis is worried because he is losing his hair, and it seems that Jubal Pomp has invented an ointment which has made hair grow on the top of $crooge's car! By Brigitta's deposition, $crooge is bound to pay Pomp a huge amount of money, since Busillis is now on Pomp's side because he wants the ointment! The only solution for $crooge is to marry Brigitta since a wife can't testify against her husband! Just before the trial's end, Busillis learns thatit was Pomp's ointment that made him lose the remaining hair, and that the "hair" grown on the top of $crooge's car was in fact a piece of Brigitta's wig. So Pomp now has no lawyer helping him, hence $crooge doesn't need to marry Brigitta, and the story (not one of Romano Scarpa's best) is over. Cavillo Busillis appears again (in three panels) in "Topolino" #624, when Donald needs a lawyer. It seems that Scarpa had decided that when he needed a lawyer he would use Busillis. Busillis reappeared 20 years later, with his hair now red (a wig?), in "Paperolimpiadi (Part 2)" ("Topolino" #1706, Aug. 7, 1988) an eight-part story where Scarpa managed to use almost all of the characters he's ever created. Scarpa used Cavillo several other times, but in later stories Cavillo is a secondary character appearing in 4 - 5 panels each time. He is still a lawyer, but not working exclusively for Brigitta; sometimes Scrooge himself asks for his help, especially when there is a trouble including Donald Duck (old debits, etc...). |
