BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS: The tales of Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear are loosely based on the Plantation fables which were passed down orally by slaves in the old American south and were eventually written down by Joel Chandler Harris. In Harris's writings Br'er Rabbit's given name was Riley Rabbit. According to Disney comicbook writer David Gerstein that name has been used at least once for him as a Disney character as well. Sometimes there is a Sis Molly Rabbit to serve as Br'er Rabbit's love interest. (She derives from the original legends of Br'er Rabbit, but the name Molly probably appears only in Disney comics.) Br'er Fox is a wiley fox who wants deperately to eat Bržer Rabbit and Br'er Bear is a big, ocassionally dumb bear living in the forest who sometimes partners with Bržer Fox, though, more often, has come to Br'er Rabbit's and Li'l Bad Wolf's aid, especially against the Big Bad Wolf. Br'er Bear is married and has twin boy cubs, though has been shown to have even more children. Missus Bear is a kind motherly type, and may be the tempering force behind Br'er Bear when he's not influenced by Br'er Fox.
HISTORICAL FACTS: While some comics have shown Br'er Rabbit and Br'er Bear to encounter other Disney Characters like Donald Duck and Tinker Bell, it is fairly well established that they belong to a more feral universe shared primarily by Big Bad & Li'L Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs.
