BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS: Baloo was a laid-back, fun-loving bear-cub, and the most loyal of his friends. Baloo lives from moment to easy going moment. His priorities include finding a good tree to scratch his back, a comfy place for a long nap, and always being ready to help his buddies. Retaining most of these qualities into his adult life, Baloo met up with the man-cub Mowgli and help the child find his place in the world. Later Baloo and company left the jungle life to live in Cape Suzette. There he runs, or rather co-operates with Rebecca Cunningham, an air-freight shipping company called "Higher For Hire." His best pal is a bearcub named Kit Cloudkicker, a former air-pirate with Don Karnage, who now serves as his co-pilot on the cargo plane the "Sea Duck." His strange, but incredibly ingenious mechanic, Wildcat, takes care of all the equipment maintenance for "Higher for Hire." Baloo enjoys the good life and can often be found hanging out in his pal Louie's tropical cabana night club. Baloo is constantly troubled by the business tycoon, Shere Kahn, the Air-Pirate Don Karnage and Colonel Spigot, among others. See also the DTA entry under "Disney's TaleSpin."
HISTORICAL FACTS: Like Mickey Mouse and Goofy, Baloo has gone through many transformations in his career, though, unlike Mickey (rather more like Chip 'n' Dale) he moved from actual animal to anthropomorphic animal. Since "Jungle Cubs" takes place during Baloo's childhood years, it can be assumed that series depicts a life prior to that shown in "Tale Spin," with "the Jungle Book" lying somewhere in-between. Somewhere along the line, like Chip 'n' Dale, Baloo and company stepped into the anthropomorphic world (a phenomenon that the Rescue Rangers and Fat Cat find easily reversible as necessary).
