BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS: Aladdin's father deserted his mother when he was just a baby and the only token he left was a jeweled dagger. Aladdin's mother died when he was very young and Aladdin was forced to live as a street rat, begging and stealing for his daily needs. Often Aladdin was confronted by the palace guards of Agrabah but his streetwise wits and his monkey pal, Abu were too cleaver for them. Aladdin would often dream of a life of ease living in the Sultan's palace. The Sultan's evil Vizer, Jafar, needed a pawn to enter the Cave of Wonders to steal the Lamp of the Genie, and was foretold that only a "diamond in the rough" would succeed. This diamond was Aladdin. One day Aladdin encountered the Sultan's daughter, Jasmine, in the marketplace, and was arrested by Razoul, Captain of the Guards, for attempted kidnapping (a false charge). Jafar took the opportunity to dupe Aladdin into helping him. After a dangerous journey into the Cave, he narrowly escaped on a Magic Carpet. Jafar used the retrieved lamp and Genie to take over Agrabah and is tricked into wishing for the powers of a Genie. Of course this proved to be Jafar's undoing as a Genie is only as powerful as his limitations, and is also a bound servant of the lamp. Jafar and Iago, his parrot, were then confined to their new prison lamp and Jafar's reign of terror was ended. Next, in "The Return of Jafar," as the title says, Jafar returns to once more terrorize the Sultan, Aladdin and all of Agrabah. However, Iago has had it with Jafar bossing him around and turns traitor by joining up with the forces of good. Jafar's dark lamp falls into the hands of the annoying thief Abis Mal who then becomes Jafar's unwitting puppet. Jafar's plans for vengence interupts Aladdin and Jasmine's wedding, and after his defeat, the love-struck couple put their plans on hold. With the "Aladdin" series a whole host of new problems arise which postpone the wedding even longer. Finally, with "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" Aladdin learns his father, Cassim, yet lives. However Cassim turns out to be the King of Forty Thieves. Discovering his father helps Aladdin sort out his own past and place and the young lovers are finally married.
