Mickey Kane grew up in Sacramento and has been doing his art for 50 years. In the late 50's Kane was one of the original members of the Artist cooperative Gallery, which would later provide a catalyst for many great careers.

Along with a number of shows in the sixties, he has had three solo museum exhibitions, has done some teaching and since 1985 has concentrated his focus on his present work. Kane now lives on the

Pacific Coast and works on mixed media panels. These panels-with a basic format of 6'X4'- became double-sided, culminating in what he would refer to as the Totum.

The Totum is indicative of the unfolding 21st Century, graphically and metaphorically. It is neither one side nor the other, nor does one side challenge or compete with the other, Each side cooperates and thus enhances the other so that both "sides" transcend that definition into a composition revealing that, indeed, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The Totum reflects the inner harmony that all sides- whether two or two thousand-are striving to manifest in their own inimitable way.

The first showing of the Art of Mickey Kane was shown at The Pipe Works. 116 North 16th street, Sacramento, 95814 on Saturday, September 13th as part of the "Second Saturday Walk". The large turnout was a public endorsement to the integrity of the totem works. The exhibit was extended on through September till October 10th for further public inspection. We certainly hope you are one of those who treated themselves to this delightful aesthetic experience.
