Subject: [s-acc] tree-sit press conference
Hi
I went to (and helped some with) today's press conference for the Berkeley tree-sitters. About a dozen people are high up in trees by the Football Stadium. The construction people hired by U.C. have been SHAKING the trees and CUTTING the ropes that hold people up. An attorney from the Lawyer's Guild Carol Strickman explained the criminal violence of the University at length. Two Native American activists talked about the spiritual issues of the trees. An M.D. emergency room person talked about the dehydration issue that's developing. My friend Neal the shrink introduced him and talked about the psychology of [!] creative maladjustment and thus the sensible nature of the tree-sitters behavior. And a former Mayor and a current City Council person also spoke.
"Creative maladjustment" just makes sense as a perspective.
We will find our path into the 'mainstream' of the movement. And work groups based on 'social accountability' will help bridge that gap.
