Subject: CJA Berkeley Tree-Sit Violence
Hi
I'm noticing that the methods used by U.C. Berkeley to harass and remove the tree-sitters by the Football Stadium constitute police violence.
A company from Watsonville has been hired to handle the tree-sit situation. They work under the direction of the U.C. administration and with the support of the U.C. police. The police can be seen from time to time to be embarrassed about how some things are happening. The people involved with the crane and the "cherry-pickers" are directly at fault here. Accountability is with the U.C. administration.
I've seen a cherry-picker used to shake a 150' redwood tree which has a "crow's-nest" on top. The person in the crows nest is being shaken in that
very dangerous situation. I've heard that the ropes holding up two protesters in trees have been cut, leaving the people to fall. They did not die it is said because they were able to catch onto lower branches.None of these people is threatening physical violence against anybody. This approach to removal is a violation of public safety, and should be enjoined, in my opinion.
Is anybody out there? Ella Baker Center? We need to stop the violence.
