Subject: [s-acc] token and truth
Hi
The "recovery" movement contributes to our empowerment process but still it leans on accommodation of the prevailing "treatment" agenda of the mental health system. That means there's a persistent "tokenism" involved there.
I used to say that the "social death sentence" is thereby being ignored/taken lightly and that a discipline of "changing habits" is required. Anything less is accommodation of behavior management, is rendering of action as treatment.
Now the new "ethical" psychology discourse of "torture" provides an opening for challenge of behavior management in social justice psychology itself. I've repeatedly said on this list we need to nurture and develop that opening.
I'd encourage those who are interested to join with us in our "beyond tokenism" project with PsySR. "Social death sentence" dramatizes, see my article.
The way to overcome tokenism is to develop a discourse of truth, truth about mind and Being.
