Gerald, were all in charge of this group.
It is up to each of us to define what is and
is not going to be appropriate. I have access to certain
tools that I am very reluctant
to use. The best thing is for each of us to
take responsibility for what we do.
<snip>
I dont quite know what the deal is. I think electronic
commuication has a mean side to it and I dont think people
readily know how to handle it. Right now Im running an
experiment because my CIS class has an Internet discussion
list and maybe I/we will learn something about the boundaries
of respectful dialogue there. But this list <mhocca> is about
a lot more than passing an introductory computer course!
I dont think putting the burden on Gerald to go and straighten
up his affairs with Felicia really cuts it. I mean, its cool
if he wants to go that route, but in fact many of us are in
situations that dont lend themselves to such resolution. And
worse than that NAMI & the system both have agendas to incite
us against one another. Its worth trying to stand up to that
but ADMIT IT the general
outcome is that most people who want
to speak up and say what they feel on a list like this
QUIT
pretty rapidly or at least go very silent, once they learn
what a hard shell seems to be required.
I live a great many miles from the parties involved here and
I cant judge the nuances that clearly, but on the face of it
Geralds claim that Felicia is needling him/Gae is a
concernful one to me. That is to say, I cant say for sure
that what she is saying is needling, after all one persons
needling is somebody elses knitting! But it is surely his
business to get concerned about this, and not just to dull
his sensitivity to accommodate the situation.
Speaking of distance, I dont know about secession but I do
admit to having given a professional
talk at the 27th Annual
State of Jefferson Math Congress, Whiskeytown Lake [Shasta
County], 1997. :-)
