Women's advocacy speech, Robin Kahn, 1/27/03

Women are unique creatures, also diverse. We have jobs, take care of the kids. Keep the house running smoothly and cater to our respective partners. Do we get praised or treated kindly? In most cases, no. What am I getting at here? The point I am trying to reach is that we are not "respected." Throughout history women have been looked down upon as second class citizens no matter what our accomplishments. We are walked on and in many cases "beaten down" into our "places." This kind of behavior is pure disrespect, also we've put up with it like the docile chamber maid waiting to serve her master or even mistress. How are we going to fix this? This is no quick fix. We need to systematically educate ourselves and those in our lives. We need to ask, or more forthwith, demand respect as not only women, but as human beings.
