Thanks for asking about On Our Own, the statewide consumer association in Maryland.
I posted the link to On Our Own because that is where I was, doing a workshop and a statewide launch.
The conference was excellent, Mike Finkle and his staff are amazing, and I am looking forward to going back to spend a week with them in July.
My point was you talk about "recovery talk" like it's good ideology and "politically correct" thought. And I don't buy a word of that. I presented at a workshop at Phoenix Alternatives (with Delphine and Sharon Clausen and others from out of state) on why "recovery" is often an unfortunate way to look at upgrading the system.
As for On Our Own of MD, well [a] I was an activist in DC in the mid 70s when the dynamics underlying the formation of On Our Own were in play. And [b] I did a workshop at Psychologists for Social Responsibility Spring 2003 with two leaders of On Our Own, on social accountability not some sales job like "the recovery model." I glad you find them socially engaging. They are certainly capable of accommodating all sorts of advocacies and keeping their balance. [!]
Are you able to talk about the truth of "recovery" and of how we as beings "involved with 'madness'" are to find social justice? Or is it your [agenda] (
your term is "job") to manage the CNMHC/Calif. "clients" while keeping us in the dark about what you really think?
