Andrew,
I prefer the non-intrusive ways. :)
The questionnaire was something that a
couple of other people told me about so I thought Id pass it along. I do
understand your reluctance in using it. And I appreciate the respect that
you give to power issues accorded to moderators.
I prefer dialogue and discussion. In fact, Ive discovered different
styles of moderation between lists. I prefer lists that take into account
peoples feelings, ideas, etc. rather than a parental idea of this is the
rule because I said so. We are adults.
I struggle with people who personalize their views/complaints/attacks. I
know that for many people what we are talking about is personal. However,
if we remember to disagree with ideas and not people, I think we can
accomplish more. Sure, it takes more work because people need to be able
to assess their feelings and evaluate when they are having knee-jerk
responses. Knee-jerk responses arent bad, they simply are, but developing
the ability to assess and evaluate your response and find an alternative
usually helps you get what you want in a more effective manner. I believe
that you get a better outcome in the end.
