Subject: Re: [psysr-endtorture] Protest against Yoo at Berkeley
Hi
I participated in the Law School Graduation demo yesterday morning, along with two friends.
There were something in the vicinity of 100 demonstrators, lots of orange jump suits and black hoods, and there was a general atmosphere of orderliness and civility. One professor did tell me, "I'm a friend of John Yoo."
People wonder, where to go from here.

There were two demonstations this weekend at the University of California Berkeley Commencement protesting the continued employment at the School of Law of John Yoo. Yoo authored the infamous legal brief in 2003, claiming the Geneva Conventions for treatment of prisoners of war need not apply to prisoners taken in the Afghan and Iraq wars, and that harsh methods, amounting to torture in most definitions, for interrogating such prisoners were not illegal. The protest supported by the Center for Constitutional Rights, the National Lawyers' Guild, Act Against Torture, Code Pink and other groups included an airplane circling open air graduation ceremony trailing a banner SHAME ON YOO.
