Hi
I participated in the International Conference on Violence, Abuse, and Trauma in San Diego this last weekend. Gave a presentation on "Trauma of Treatment," a topic often neglected.
Be that as it may, the IVAT in its 11th year has finally plugged in with the "consumer/survivor" movement and given them a serious voice in the proceedings. In this they
showed ***** than the PsySR-TR subcommittee which left us hanging on the point of collaboration a year ago. :-(The keynote speakers were Arun Ghandi, grandson of the Mahatma, and Jacki McKinney, a long-time activist in our movement and head of the National People of Color Coalition which is a major multicultural networking.
Then there was a "consumer/survivor" track [!] with quite a few leading activists from around the country presenting on various topics.
http://ivatcenters.org What a departure for professional psychology!

Hi
I really should correct what I wrote. I think it is an overstatement.

:-(I don't agree with the decision of the PsySR-TR subcommittee but this is an unfortunate turn of phrase. PsySR has been minded of the problematic of torture and that is really a difficult struggle. I admire the work of Paul Kimmel in that area. I just feel that Linden Nelson's view regarding "trauma of treatment" is incorrect, bad policy for PsySR. I must respect his bravery in standing up for peace against difficult conditions, including the sometimes-bellicose social environment there in San Luis Obispo.
My apologies to anyone I offended here.
