Andrew,

If some-one, anyone be it from a corp. to a non-profit, or an organization like CA Network...pays some-one to attend a conference, a meeting or an official meeting, they have the responsibility to report back to some-one who is part of this group or agency .. seems like a no-brainer.

There has always been a perception problem and an ethic’s problem on who gets “picked in LA.County” on who gets to go where. Nine times out of ten it’s the same people all the time. They call Ron Schraiber from O.C.A. and Bill Compton get together from the M.H.A. and like magic the carpet arrives along with air-plane tickets and the hotel reservations etc., etc. The entire system stinks. We talk about national politics campaign finance reform, what a joke .. as long as the Client Coalition in L.A. or the Network is in cahoots with Protection and Advocacy and the state Dept. of Mental Health, we’ve been co-opted and are just as much a part of the hypocrisy of NAMI, taking drug money and people in power whether it be Republicans, Democrats, or consumers taking crumbs from our so-called leaders who are in a position of POWER that decide who goes to what and where. Let’s be honest: For most consumers a trip on a plane to some convention to hoot and holler do some networking can be a once in a life-time experience.

It’s too bad how these decisions are made and who makes them.
