Dear Sally

In lieu of the tragic shootings in Nevada City, CA. Re the mental health consumer shooting up the clinic, and killing the manager in the restaurant, I would hope that the network can be a little more proactive with the media. Insomuch as approaching them first — by way of holding a news conference, condemning the senseless violence, demanding accountability, as well as denouncing the current mental health system as we know it to be a dismal failure.

This is not to say necessarily that even with the best mental health system around, tragedies do happen. However, we need to be able to cite this as a blip so to speak, and not wait for the media, and NAMI-TAC folks to use this as another way to exploit this tragedy, in giving the impression that all of the mentally ill are dangerous and violent. This is a serious matter in your back yard, not too far from the Capitol.

I really think we should be proactive and not wait to have to defend our position, because they will come after us on this.
