Coalition for Choice and Quality Services

We are writing regarding your proposal at our April 7, 2001 board meeting. We had a great deal of discussion regarding your request and have come to the following conclusion:

The California Network of Mental Health Clients encourages and supports individuals to participate in any organization or coalition that furthers the goal of choice and quality services. Based on this tenet, the California Network welcomes any dialogue that promotes these issues.

Sincerely,

Bill Compton

FYI the draft I posted on MHOCCA in re constructing this coalition ‘CCQS’ is online.

The actual structure and process is of course at the discretion of the members. As the draft stands, the key question of governance for a ‘bottom-up’ coalition is who is the group of ‘contact persons’ that sustain the process of the organization [facilitate?]. IMO these should be persons who are generally felt to be even-handed and fair-minded and considered exemplary in standing against factionalism.

Who’s to say? Well that obviously depends on the opinion of the group. I made an effort to enlist some persons whom I felt to meet this standard. One (Walter Shwe of Yolo County) agreed to serve as a contact person. He’s <walter@shwe.com>. Two others have indicated a general intent/interest to serve, but I don’t have a final confirmation.

Others who are interested in taking the responsibility to act as ‘contact persons’ may surely contact myself and/or Walter if they want to discuss the matter privately. Oh, BTW I am NOT going to be a ‘contact person’ for this coalition, and the sooner I can organize myself out of this role, the better. I do hehehe intend to participate.

Respectfully

Andrew Phelps
