Hi
My friend Michael and I attended Jane Mayer's presentation in Berkeley last night.
Jane was a reporter for the Washington Star before she was involved with the New Yorker. My best friend in high school whose father was a behavioral psychologist persecuted by McCarthy for his (! National Security) work on brainwash of prisoners in Korea married a Washington Star reporter of that era. Maybe they were friends.
When we were leaving the event, the person behind us turned out to be Gerald Gray. He's the psychologist who founded and the Bay Area Torture Survivors movement. He now runs their San Jose chapter and works at AACI, which is an Asian-American oriented county funded mental health nonprofit.
Gerry was a student of Tom Scheff at U.C. Santa Barbara.
Anyway he smiled at us and helped us .. two client/survivors who have each been Chair of the Berkeley Mental Health Commission .. to feel safe.
