Subject: [fc-discuss] Boston APA torture demo
Hi
The American Psychological Association met last August in San Francisco. Some of us collaborated with the local activist group "Act Against Torture" and did a parallel demonstration across the street from them,
The Businessman Has No Clothes. The context was the "Ethical APA" struggle against (interrogation) torture. AAT and our "client/survivor" group each coordinated with their organizing.
The APA meets in Boston this August. The following is circulating on the "social justice psychology" Internet:
A coalition of Boston activists is putting together a protest and rally to be staged during the APA convention in August. Our agenda will be to continue the protest against psychologist participation in interrogations, in illegal detention sites ..
We hope to see some of you there! We're planning the demonstration for Saturday, Aug 16, time to be announced.
With thoughtfulness we can imagine participation and also bringing to the APA's attention the matter of "torture" as it can apply to "treatment."
Anyone that wants to write me on this, I'm interested in hearing from them.
