Hi

On Fri Sep 2 9:12, Andrew Phelps sent:

Today the Calif. Network of M.H. Clients (CNMHC) is facing an emergency "corporate meltdown" challenge. The CNMHC has been held up, as our "Work Group" has long maintained, by the "corporate backing" of Calif. DMH. But with the state budget crisis and today's social conditions, the "corporate responsibility" now must be implemented forthwith. The alternative is "corporate breakdown."

I listened to that 3 1/2 hour meeting. The outcome was that the present E.D. was officially terminated and an interim "corporate process" was instituted. The vote was 7-6. Vernon Montoya had already stepped down as Chair, and he resigned from the Board before the vote was taken. He said that would be the best for the Network.

The CNMHC, founded 1983, was the first statewide client/survivor network. Hopefully the deficiencies of the process will now piece by piece be remedied: That is a creative project, to be sure. Learning to live "the culture of social responsibility" involves social and cultural change.

I believe this direction will help with grassroots advocacy in California. I trust we can learn from the brave efforts of the Texas MHC and that of other states, also.

This starfish reports that yesterday's "low tide" experience was on the good side.

Best

Andrew
