Subject: Re: [Actmad] Some Detainees Are Drugged For Deportation

Hi

Stephen Soldz is a Boston psychoanalyst and one of the organizers of the Coalition for an Ethical APA. He's also co-coordinator of the End Torture Action Committee of Psychologists for Social Responsibility and he posted on the ENDTORTURE list, in response to this same Washington Post article, the following [cross-posted with permission]:

The abusive use of healthcare never ends. Today's Washington Post reports that the immigration has been forcibly sedating immigrants being deported with psychotropics, including enormous doses of Haldol. This story places our psychiatric and nursing colleagues in the hot seat. I hope the ApA and the ANA will take strong stands against the abuses reported here.

This example constitutes another refutation of the silly APA claim that having psychologists participate in interrogations is protective of detainees. As this immigration abuse demonstrates yet again, any system that relies upon individual health workers to become heroes in order to prevent abuses is deeply flawed.
