Hi
On Friday Nov. 9th I attended the "Making System Change"
workshop by the Santa Clara County Clients Network
(formerly MHCSCC), at the California Network Forum 2001
in San Mateo. Tom Jurgensen and Theresa Georges
presided, and quite a few people spoke.
Tom talked about the spirit of Santa Clara clients
and presented various details about what's happening.
Lynne Stewart, former CEO of the Network, welcomed
the Santa Clara clients.
Bonnie Schell, E.D. of the Santa Cruz Network, MHCAN
talked about her experiences with the Santa Clara
clients' movement. She said that the kinds of questions
they ask of the system had helped her see ways to
challenge her own county system.
Barry Fultonberg talked about the way the UCM had
come into being and how they had moved from confrontation
to dialogue.
Michele Powers spoke about Central County self-help
and how self-help had touched her.
Henry Obeso and Cheryl Crose, who are current CIS 41
students of mine, talked about the computer class and
about student organizing at SJCC.
Several people talked about the Educational Retreat:
Theresa talked about her experience, then from the
audience Sharon Clausen and Terry Fleming also spoke
about their experience as facilitators.
By the attendance sheet 39 people in all participated.
Hehehe I will get this sheet to the Network as soon
as I can!
I thought it was a very good presentation and had a
meaningful effect on people. I felt proud to be
associated with this endeavor.
Respectfully
Andrew Phelps
