Using disk space as a supplement to physical memory ... by Tom S. Bair Jr.
The Windows 98 CD is reported to contain defective mouse drivers. Microsoft Support has a Windows 98 Upgrade available for the mouse and wheel mouse.
Microsoft has identified a few problems with Windows 95 not being Year-2000 compliant. You may experience problems using the DATE and DIR commands on your computer. The DIR command displays file dates using only two digits to represent the year, instead of four. You will also receive an error message when you type the DATE command to set the current date and you enter the year as only two digits from 00 through 79.
Microsoft recommends that you install the corrected version of the COMMAND.COM file found in the Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2, or Windows 95 B), OSR 2.1, and OSR 2.5. You can download the file you need.
It saddens me that this is the last issue of Computer Bits to be edited by Paul Heinlein. I owe Paul a great deal of gratitude for nurturing my writing efforts over the past year. Hopefully our Publisher, Paul Harwood, will find another great editor to step into Paul's shoes, one who'll provide as clear of a direction to the magazine's format as has been experienced over the past few years. Good luck, Paul!
