Nestled in two valleys north of the San Rafael Canal and east of downtown, the Montecito Area (Happy Valley) is one of San Rafael's oldest neighborhoods, offering a variety of housing, businesses, and community services.

Our neighborhood features a beautiful natural setting, elegant historic homes, a location convenient to retail shops and service providers, and a diversity of activity and community.  Schools, jobs, and transit are all within walking distance.

As a MARA member you can have a direct hand in many aspects of our neighborhood's present and future.  Be sure to sign up now if you haven't already.  It's only $10 a year per person ($5 for seniors) and a great way to meet your neighbors.

Bulletin!

Find out how you and your neighbors can become members of the City of San Rafael's very capable Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).  Receive excellent training in such critical skills as light search-and-rescue, disaster preparation, and what to do in the first 72 hours after a disaster.

The CERT course is offered by the San Rafael Fire Department at its Station 2 training facility, 210 Third Street, San Rafael.  Classes meet from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesdays for seven weeks (with the 2008 spring session starting on May 6, 2008), and the fee is $60 per participant.  For additional information, call 458-5002 or send an e-mail to sanrafaelprepare@cityofsanrafael.org.

To encourage participation, MARA helps subsize CERT training of our area residents (see map for neighborhood boundaries), and, upon proof of residency and evidence of completion of your CERT course, the association will "refund" you $30 toward your fee.  Just contact MARA at the above address to take advantage of this great opportunity.

To inquire about registering for a CERT training, call (415) 485-5002.

Become a Member—It's Easy to Sign Up

It takes all kinds of things to keep our neighborhood a place we enjoy living—everything from beautification and cleanup to block parties and yard sales, from "watchdogging" City planning and building departments about new construction requests, to putting out a newsletter.  You can make a difference.
To join, or to renew your annual MARA membership, send your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address (if you wish) along with a check for$10 per person ($5 for seniors) payable to "Montecito Area Residents' Association" c/o MARA, P.O. Box 150266, San Rafael, CA  94915-0266.  Members should either be residents of the Montecito area or retail, commercial, or other organizations located in the neighborhood.
