Jerry Fuchs(Iran-Contra a true crime against the Constitution) is "tinkering at the fringes" of the really BIG(but suppressed) story.
He says, "But when witnesses began to talk about another crime that took place in that period, the selling of drugs by the Contras, in the United States, with the apparent assent of governmental officials, the committee would not allow testimony in public and convened behind closed doors."
As a long time Republican(now the San Mateo County Libertarian representative on the LPC Platform Committee), with both Congressional and U.S. Senate campaigns under my belt, I am very familiar with the drug issue. I have always believed, as do Libertarians, that drug prohibition creates crime, and not vice versa.
Why, then have these laws not been repealed? Milton Friedman would refer to it as the Tyranny of the Status Quo. Another way to look at it, is as a "cash cow". A goose that lays golden eggs. How many governments and incumbent politicians around the world depend upon "drug money" for their survival? Decriminalize drugs, and you kill the "cash cow". Let's refocus our efforts. Let's end the "war on drugs", and begin a "war on drug laws"!
