Create Todo Readme. "Create Todo" is a shareware program to generate todo items in the Palm Pilot todo list. It uses a standard Palm memo entry and creates one todo entry for each line in the memo after the first line. It can start on any day you wish and will continue for up to 3 months until the bottom of the memo is reached. Included with this distribution is a memo archive file that will generate a todo list to read the 1/4 of the Bible in 3 months. Contents of zip archive. ------------------------ Create_todo.pdb - A pocket C executable program BibleQ1.mpa - A sample memo archive to read 1/4 of the bible Create_todo.txt - This text PocketC_rt.zip - An archive of the Pocket C runtime application. Installation instructions ------------------------- Make a new directory on your system and unzip the archive in that directory. The create_todo.pdb file is installed like any other program or file on the Palm. However, you must have a copy of Pocket_C installed on your system for it to work. You can either have a complete copy of Pocket_C or you can use the runtime only version. If you need a copy then unzip the PocketC_rt.zip file included with this program and follow the instructions in the readme.txt file to install it. For this application you will not need the mathlib. The same copy of Pocket C can run many applications. Note that this program requires Palm OS version 2.0 or higher. The create_todo program requires a memo file that contains the desired todo list. To install the sample archive use the your desktop Palm application to import the memo archive into your desktop. (Select the File menu and click on import to import the memo.) The results should be a new memo file called: New todo a. The next time you do a hot sync this memo will be added to your Palm. Running the Program ------------------- Start the C program. Choose create_todo and touch execute. You will be prompted for the name of the memo file. A default name is provided. Tap and the end of the name and then append the space and a to the name (or whatever name you have chosen to call it). If the memo you chose does not exist you will receive an error and the program will abort. Once the data is read in you will be asked whether you want to add these entries to your todo list. Tap 'yes'. Follow the rest of the instructions printed on the screen and the program will add the todo's listed in the memo to your todo list with the start date and priority that you select. If you cancel or reset the start date the you will have an undated todo. You must enter a priority. DO NOT run the program a second time with the same data or you will generate another set of todo's. Now go to the todo list and you will find all of the new todo's listed. Happy reading! If, for some reason, you need to delete these items from your todo list you can rerun the same program and select 'no' when asked to add the items. Selecting no will cause all of the entries in the list to be deleted from the todo list if they are present. You should sync your palm to purge the deleted items from the database. Creating your own list ---------------------- You can easily create your own list for the todo program. It can be anything you wish from the reading list shown in the example to a shopping list for the store. Registered program users will get the lists for the other 3/4 of the Bible plus any other lists that would seem useful that are contributed either by me or from other users. Here are the rules for todo lists: o The memo name needs to be something you will remember. o Each todo item needs to be on a line by itself in the memo. o Lines starting with "/" will be ignored. (comments) o A blank line in the file will cause the corresponding day to be skipped in the todo list. Tips: ----- 1. After the todo items are in your todo list you may find that they are not in the order you prefer. Use show on the todo screen to select the order for the sort. If you like the one that is set then select another one and sort it and then change it back to the one you want. These entries were entered directly at the end of the list so the todo program doesn't know they need sorting. 2. If you have duplicate items in your todo list you can get rid of all of them in one pass if you first sort them so the duplicates are together. Otherwise you may have to run the program several times. 2. Use blank lines to skip a day when you need to. Use a leading / in the first character of the line to skip the line itself. 3. To build a shopping list, generate a memo with generic items in it but commented out then just uncomment (delete the leading /) the items you need for todays list. Do not exceed 125 todo's in a single memo. 4. If you get too far behind in your reading and need to reset the date just delete the list and add it in again. 5. If your todo list is really long the delete may take longer than your timeout setting. If your unit turns off just turn it back on again and let the program continue. 6. If you need to abort the program tap the apps key. Registering your program ------------------------ Please send check or money order for $10 US currency only to: Dale DePriest 16179 Brewer Rd.
